The Bank of Lancaster’s Second In-School Bank

NHS Bank.JPG

Last month, the Bank of Lancaster opened its second in-school bank at Northumberland High School in Heathsville, Va. The project began early in the school year when one of the school’s counselors approached the Bank of Lancaster about establishing a school bank to help the students further their financial education. The Bank of Lancaster also sponsors an in-school bank in Kilmarnock, Va. that was opened three years ago. A representative from the ABA Education Foundation, the Virginia Bankers Association and local officials were there on opening day to greet the first customers.

If your bank has an interest in sponsoring an in-school bank, refer to the ABA Education Foundation’s “Starting an In-School Bank” Web page as a guide. The page has information on deciding which type of in-school bank is best for your bank and how to notify the proper officials. See where your model fits in and don’t forget to let the foundation know when your bank opens an in-school bank. Starting an In-School Bank.
